Set up your AI key.
You only need this for Lifetime. Your trial week and Monthly are graded on my server with no key. With your own key, your log and your plan go from your computer straight to the provider you pick, only when a report runs, and never pass through me.
1. Pick a provider
Use the one you already have an account with. If you have none, any of the four works.
- Anthropic (Claude): console.anthropic.com/settings/keys
- DeepSeek: platform.deepseek.com/api_keys
- Gemini (Google): aistudio.google.com/apikey
- Perplexity: perplexity.ai/account/api/keys
2. Create a key
Sign in on that page, create a new API key and copy it. Most providers also ask you to add a little credit to the account before a key works. A report costs a few cents, billed to you by the provider. I never see your card for it and I don’t resell tokens.
Google AI Studio has a free tier, so a Gemini key can work without adding credit. The catch: on the free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and people may review it. On a paid (billed) key it doesn’t. If your log is private, turn on billing for that key first. Google’s terms.
3. Paste it into Whatcha Doing
Open the app, go to Settings, choose your provider under AI provider, and paste the key into the API key field.
The key is saved in config.json on your own computer, in plain text. It is never sent to me. More on that in the privacy page.
Rather not deal with keys?
A managed version that needs no key is coming. It isn’t ready yet.
Rather not get a key?
Monthly writes your reports on my server for $5 a month, cancel any time. Everything Lifetime has is included. Your week passes through the server to be graded and isn’t stored. The details are in the privacy page.
